ísland (2021/2)

For my time in Iceland I chose the period before the winter solstice this time. Since childhood I loved this time of the year, approaching the shortest day and the return of the light, the birth of the new.

The music that found me this time before the journey was Sting’s album “If On A Winter’s Night” – “Gabriel’s Message”, “Cold Song” and “Lullaby for an anxious Child”, also the live version of the concert at Durham Cathedral in England with it’s wonderful beginning about winter… – which seems “to have this almost gravitational pull back towards one’s roots…the season of cold and frosts and long nights… the season of stories and spirits…”.

“Winter for me is the season of imagination. It’s the season of reflection where you’re asked to face the ghosts of the past, and in facing them we must treat with them calmly and civilly before the snows melt and the cycle of the seasons can begin – once more” (Sting): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl1FnmSGj1Q
